Acne is a skin condition that occurs when glands (sebaceous glands) in the follicles of the skin become overactive. These glands produce sebum to prevent the skin from drying out. When excessive sebum is produced, follicle will be blocked. If the blocked follicles is close to the skin surface, a whitehead is formed. When it reaches the skin surface, it is seen as blackhead. With bacteria on the skin, clogged follicles will then experience inflammation leading to the formation of spots, nodules and cysts.
